Alfred Hitchcock produced and directed The Birds in 1963. It is one of his best-known horror/thrillers and focuses on a series of strange and sudden bird attacks on the people of Bodega Bay, California. It is loosely based on a story by Daphne du Maurier.
The film stars Tippi Hedren in her screen debut, Rod Taylor, Jessica Tandy, Suzanne Pleshette, and Veronica Cartwright. The screenplay is by Evan Hunter.
The United States Library of Congress deemed The Birds “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant” in 2016. It was selected for preservation in its National Film Registry.
