Richard Buckminster Fuller (July 12, 1895 – July 1, 1983) was a renowned American architect, author, systems, theorist, designer, inventor, and futurist. Known as R. Buckminster Fuller in his writings, he published more than 30 books and introduced such phrases as “Spaceship Earth”, “Dymaxion” (e.g., Dymaxion house, Dymaxion car, Dymaxion map), “ephemeralization”, “synergetics”, and “tensegrity” into the modern lexicon.
Fuller invented many things and created many architectural designs. This image features him with a model of his well-known geodesic sphere. Carbon molecules with a structural and mathematical resemblance to geodesic spheres have since been called ‘fullerenes’. He also designed the Dymaxion car and the Dymaxion house. Buckminster Fuller served as the 2nd World President of Mensa International from 1974 to 1983.
