The Coso Pictographs are a collection of prehistoric rock art depicting animals, abstract symbols and anthropomorphic figures. Over 35,000 petroglyphs are formally documented. They estimate that over 100,000 petroglyphs exist in the Coso Range, making it the highest concentration of rock art in North America. While most of the carvings are believed to be between 2,000 and 3,000 years old, experts estimate some of the Coso pictographs art to be over 10,000 years old.

Additionally, they escort the souls of the dead to that otherworld. As a result, shamans are very important people indeed.
