Da Vinci presents an interesting coupling of anatomical parts here. On one side, we have a view of the quadriceps muscle group; superficial, skin intact, but with some clear definition of specific muscles. The quadriceps function are primarily knee extension. They help you climb and descend stairs but they also offer you stability at the knee joint.
By contrast, on the other side, we see the very detailed anatomy of the trachea and larynx and the thyroid cartilage. The musculature, for the most part, has been stripped away and we can imagine the route that our inhalation takes along the trachea, down the bronchioles that attach to the lungs.
