The 1920s were a golden age in children’s book illustration. Several talented artists including Arthur Rackham and Edmund Dulac were commissioned to illustrate luxuriously bound and printed children’s books.
Kay Nielsen was another such artist who was at the forefront of this golden age of Art Deco illustration with his work in East of the Sun and West of the Moon (1922). This book featured Norwegian folktales for children and contains twenty-five coloured plates. This is just one of them.
