The Elephant’s Trunk Nebula weaves through the emission nebula and young star cluster complex IC 1396 in the constellation of Cepheus. The elephant’s trunk (also known as vdB 142) is over 20 light-years long. The IC 1396 complex is almost 3,000 light-years away and spans over 5 degrees. This is a wondrous and stunningly beautiful image.
