Emily Roebling was the wife of Washington Roebling, head engineer of the Brooklyn Bridge. During construction, Washington suffered from decompression sickness after ascending too quickly from the bridge’s underwater caissons. The damaged caused by decompression sickness left Washington Roebling bed-ridden and Emily in charge of managing crews, politicians, and engineering calculations.
Taylor Sang, with degrees in Economics and Civil Engineering, is a woman in STEM and proponent of making STEM fields more accessible to women, people of color, and low-income households. When Taylor isn’t working, she teaches STEM classes at a Louisville, Kentucky charter school, trains for marathons, and plays with her dogs, Biscuit and Boba.
