Republic of Gilead Women’s Softstyle Tee

Margaret Atwood wrote about an oppressive patriarchy in The Handmaid’s Tale; the so called Republic of Gilead. It was described as a totalitarian, theonomic, and neo-Puritanical regime that took over most of the continental United States of America.  Women were denied the opportunity to learn how to read or write and were seen only as subservient childbearers to the ruling men. Abortion was illegal and punishable by public execution.

Roe V. Wade has been overturned by the US Supreme Court.  Women no longer have a constitutional right to do what they want with their own bodies regarding abortion.

This shirt represents the flag of the Republic of Gilead flag and a detached leaf labeled “Roe v. Wade” which drifts off into the distance. This important 1973 US Supreme Court case ruled that the US Constitution protects a woman’s right to an abortion. This law was overturned by the US Supreme Court on June 24th, 2022.  The right to abortion is no longer protected for American women.
