The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is the most advanced space telescope ever built. It is being jointly developed by NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and is scheduled to launch on December 18th, 2021. It will succeed the Hubble Space Telescope.
Onboard the JWST are state-of-the-art infrared sensors and much greater sensitivity over Hubble. This will allow for a much broader range of research across the fields of cosmology and astronomy, including seeing some of the most distant events and objects in the universe. We will be able to examine the formation of the first galaxies and measure the atmospheres of potentially habitable exoplanets. The James Webb Space Telescope will show us the universe as we have never seen it before.
