Ludwig van Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany (est. December 16th, 1770 – March 26th, 1827). He is considered one of the greatest musical geniuses who ever lived.
He was promoted by his father as a child prodigy and he supported his family by becoming a touring musical performer. He moved to Vienna, Austria, in the twenties and lived there for the rest of his life.
Beethoven started going deaf at around thirty years old. This changed his focus from being a pianist to being a composer. Even though he could no longer hear his music, he could feel it through vibrations. He produced some of his most amazing work as a composer.
His fifth and ninth symphonies are, perhaps, his best known, but he also wrote lots of other types of music as well: piano music, string quartets, choral and chamber music, and even an opera.
