The Nazca Lines are a group of large geoglyphs made in the soil of the Nazca Desert in southern Peru. They were created between 500 BCE and 500 CE.
Most of the Nazca Lines are straight lines which stretch across a huge area, but there are also fascinating figures of animals and plants. What makes them very interesting is their precision and the fact that many of them can only be fully appreciated with an aerial view.
Anthropologists, ethnologists, and archaeologists have come up various ideas to try and explain this. One of the more well-known explanations is that they were intended as a means of communication with the gods. Others think their purpose may be linked to astronomy and cosmology and that they worked as a kind of observatory. We may never know their true purpose.
This tee shirt features the image of a spider. What is really interesting about this image is that it is of a spider genus known as Ricinulei which is found in the Amazon rainforest nearly 1000 miles away.
