This is a prehistoric rock carving of a shaman or sun god from Tamgaly, Kazakhstan. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and provides evidence of the rich history and heritage of Central Asia. The region has been inhabited by many nomadic societies who have made their home on its steppe for millennia.
Approximately 5000 prehistoric rock carvings that date from at least the Late Bronze Age (1500 BCE). have been found here, as well as sanctuaries and burial mounds, which have offered a unique insight into ancient nomad civilizations.
The valley appears to have been a sacred prehistoric site as over 48 sanctuaries and burial grounds have been found. This is image depicts a person with a sun-shaped head and may depict a shaman or even a sun god.
