The Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC), or Nubecula Minor is a dwarf galaxy near the Milky Way. It can be seen from the southern hemisphere and it is stunning. It has a diameter of about 7,000 light years and it contains several hundred million stars. It is a close neighbour in universal terms. being a mere 200,000 light years away.
It is no wonder that the Small Magellanic Cloud galaxy has been included in the ancient stories of people in the southern hemisphere. Amazing … and very humbling.
