With enormous hips, a pot belly, tiny head, and gigantic claws, Therizinosaurus is a top candidate for being one of the strangest looking creatures of all time.
Therizinosaurs lived about 120 million years ago and their remains have been found in Asia (mainly modern-day Mongolia) and in North America. They belong to the theropod dinosaur group called maniraptors which also includes birds. They had enormous claws to defend themselves and their small heads and the shape of their teeth suggest that they ate plants.
Their long and powerful claws, combined with their huge size, would have made them a formidable opponent for any creature unfortunate enough to disturb them while they were munching on some tasty leaves.
