The Triskele symbol, otherwise known as the Triskelion, is a trilateral symbol consisting of three interlocked spirals. It is featured on the Newgrange kerbstones (which date from around 3200 BCE) and is regarded as one of the oldest Irish symbols in existence. Triskeles are a widely used symbol in both ancient and modern Celtic art. They are thought to represent the three realms of earthy existence: earth, water, and sky and their interconnectedness. The Triskele is also thought to represent the three worlds: spiritual, physical, and celestial.
Trinity connections also include life-death-rebirth, past-present-future, and creation-protection-destruction. Some have also suggested that it represents reincarnation as it is one continuous line of movement. In this manner, it shows a ‘moving forward’ through each state of understanding and enlightenment. It is a very old and powerful Celtic symbol, indeed.
