Vitruvian Man by da Vinci Tee Shirt (Men’s)

Vitruvian Man is one of da Vinci’s best known illustrations. In it, Leonardo uses both image and text to express the ideas of Vitruvius, a 1st century Roman architect.

Vitruvius explored the idea of ideal proportions as they pertained to temple building. He believed that the measurements and proportions of the human body were perfect because they were divinely created. This became an important inspiration in both art and architecture during the Renaissance.     

Da Vinci fits the human form perfectly, both within a circle, and within a square as an example of this idea. His navel falls exactly in the centre of the circle. The text paraphrases Vitruvius’ theory.
